Delta Keeps Piece of Northwest Flying

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK | Delta is showcasing a little respect to Northwest Airlines, the two airlines merges back in 2010, when Delta agree to take over the struggling airline, a deal that created the worlds largest Airline until United and Continental merged in 2011. Delta who once operated only Boeing aircraft and Northwest majority of aircraft was Airbus. With the lack of Boeing 757 replacement and the retirement of the Boeing 757, 767 and the MD88, Delta places orders with Airbus for A321 aircraft to replace the 757 and some MD88. The Airbus A321 and Boeing 737-900ER was chosen to replace the 757 and MD88 within Delta lineup. Although Northwest had orders for the Dreamliner; Those aircraft are set to be delivered between 2017 and 2023. Delta want ed a sooner opinion for their 767 fleet replacement; with the Airbus A330 already in the lineup as well as A320 family, pilots, ground crew and flight attendants training would be less expensive than then the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Delta choose to order 15 Airbus A330HGW model fitted to CFM engines. Delta is the very first airline to order the HGW (High Gross Weight)  A330.

During the pass weeks Delta had reserved each aircraft ship number with the FAA, these aircraft was registered not using DL lettering but rather NW, Northwest lettering. A great way for Delta to keep piece of Northwest Airlines flying and to honor those Northwest employees that are still with the company.
