FIFA WORLD CUP | MATCH 15 | GROUP H | JUNE 16 2014 |  Algeria gave Belgium and its fan a big scare in the first-half, after a terrible foul by midfielder Jan VERTONGHEN (BEL) that earned him a yellow card and a penalty kick for Algeria giving them a chance to do something that they haven’t done since 1988 and that score in a World Cup. Sofiane FEGHOULI, striker and captain of his Algerian team, took the penalty and put his country on top 0 – 1 for the first half of the game.

Belgium a team that full of stars likes, Vincent KOMPANY the captain of BARCLAY’S PREMIER LEAGUE 2014 winner Manchester City, and also captain of his country. was shock going into the second half, Belgium made some quick changes that saw great results; Marouane FELLAINI (BEL) came off the bench to score Belgium’s first goal in the 70′ minute, and tying the game up 1 – 1, ten(10) minutes later Dries MERTENS (BEL) scores Belgium’s second goal in the 80′ minute and giving them a 2 – 1 lead, heading into the last 10 minutes of the game, where Belgium’s was able to secure the win keeping Algeria from scoring again.

Belgium, was able to cap of a comeback win against an Algerian team, who prove that they, belong in the same group with the lights of Belgium, Russia, and the Korean Republic. Although they were only able to score on a penalty, they kept fighting and kept attacking keeping Belgium off guard and making things hard for them. The Belgium coach Marc Wilmots, stated that the first half was too slow, and it was exactly what, that Algeria did to make this game a challenge for the great team from Belgium, and that’s exactly what Belgium is a great team, that was able to overcome everything and capture that well needed 3 points.

 

“The game was too slow in the first half, and we just weren’t able to find a way past a team that refused to play football. The substitutions I made injected a bit of pace, which changed the game after the break,”  – Marc Wilmots, Belgium coach.
